Animal Heads

Can someone please tell me what is so attractive about hanging animal heads in a living room? I'm down here in Tampa trying to enjoy my week-long vacation when my soon-to-be-brother-in-law pulls kudu and springbuck heads from his garage. Apparently, these lovely African deer just arrived from the taxidermist and their months-long trek across the ocean.

And what is he insistent that we do? The heads HAVE to be hung this moment.

My first worry is that he is going to kill himself trying to hang the darn thing and then I will have to deal with my sister (not that I don't love her, but placing himself in precarious places a week before the wedding is highly upsetting). My second worry is that once the thing is hung, it won't stay hung and will come crashing 10 feet down onto the floor. And to say the least, my future brother-in-law can be a bit of a bear when p*ssed.

So he does end up injuring himself when the kudu head falls off the wall onto his head leaving a big red mark. Now my sister is fretting that the red mark won't disappear for the pics next Saturday. Weddings!!

From the "Great moments from mediocre movies" file, a scene from "Arthur," in which he comes across a moose-head on a wall:
"Where's the rest of that moose? You must have really hated that moose." The animal-head-on-wall is sometimes defended as a conversation piece. When someone says this, you should immediately try to engage the taxidermed head in conversation (but don't hold out your hand, it won't get shaken).
